The Council of Writing Program Administrators’ 2017 Conference, held at the UT Conference Center and Hilton Hotel in downtown Knoxville, Tennessee, is hosted by The University of Tennessee and the Council of Writing Program Administrators. The Council of Writing Program Administrators knows well that what it means to “administer a writing program” varies from place to place. It includes not only first-year writing, but WAC/WID, Writing Centers, First-year seminars, writing studies, community-based literacy initiatives, digital writing, writing studies research, and advocacy for the many ways that the work of literacy education gets done. We welcome participants from any area related to the administration and delivery of these multiple literacies. Together, we can do this shared work better. Participants leave this conference with new energy, new ideas, and new (and restored) national colleagues and allies.
The 2017 conference theme is Solving Problems Together: Agency and Advocacy in an Age of Austerity.
This year's plenary speakers are Nancy Welch and Tony Scott. Utah State University Press is pleased to offer a special discount on their edited collection, Composition in the Age of Austerity, for attendees ordering copies before the conference. Purchase at www.upcolorado.com using promo code WELCHSCOTT by July 1 to get a 25% discount!
As always, while participating in these stimulating conversations, we encourage you to have fun with your fellow WPAs. We also invite you to bring your families and to extend your stay in the Smoky Mountains.
